Traffic stop leads to drug charges in Brooks

A traffic stop by a peace officer in Brooks on July 21 just before 8 p.m. has lead to drug charges for two individuals.

During the stop an officer observed open alcohol in the vehicle and contacted the Brooks RCMP for assistance with a possible impaired driver.

Mounties attended the scene and arrested both occupants of the vehicle.

A vehicle search led to the discovery of a grinder, digital scale, and other drug paraphernalia, including 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine in three bags, brass knuckles and 10 cartons of illegal cigarettes.

Both individuals were charged with possession of a controlled substance.

The female passenger was also fined $1,200 for possession of illegal tobacco products.

The male driver was also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

Both individuals are scheduled to appear in Brooks Provincial Court on Oct. 29.
