Oyen RCMP warn of scam impersonating STARS Lottery

Jul 8, 2025 | 12:31 PM

Oyen RCMP is warning residents of a phone scam impersonating the STARS Lottery.

Recently Mounties said they have had reports of unknown callers saying they are calling on behalf of the STARS Lottery.

The caller then tells the intended victims they have won a prize, and must send a payment to claim the prize.

The caller ID even displayed “STARS Lottery” to add legitimacy to the call.

RCMP and STARS is ensuring the public that this is a scam.

STARS said they are aware of ongoing scam attempts involving lottery tickets and actively works to inform the public, especially during campaign periods.

The organization adds it will never ask anyone to send money to claim a prize, and if you are being asked for payment of any kind it is a scam.

You can verify with STARS directly to verify if you are a winner.

Winners are listed on their official lottery websites at www.starslottery.ca.

They can also be reached at 1-844-782-7775 or info@stars.ca.

In addition to notifying STARS of any scams, ticket purchasers can also contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
