Heritage Gather, BMX trial day: Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat

The summer months are officially in full swing in Medicine Hat and area.

All weather alerts were lifted by Friday morning — but there’s always the risk they could return.

Friday will bring a high of 28 C, according to the Environment Canada forecast.

There’s a 60 per cent chance of showers for Saturday, along with a projected high of 18 C.

Warm weather is expected to return Sunday with a 28 C high and a sunny sky.

Here is what’s on in Medicine Hat and area for the first weekend of July.

🐎 Heritage Gather 2025

The annual Heritage Gather is taking place this weekend at the Dunmore Equestrian Centre.

The event showcases Indigenous culture and Western heritage through open rodeo, ranch scramble, Powwow demonstrations, Buffalo Riding Cowboy, cultural craft workshops, artisan market, live music and more.

The event kicks off with the opening of the beer gardens at 5 p.m on Friday evening and runs until 10 p.m.

On Saturday, it gets underway again at 11 a.m. and concludes with a performance from band Rent to Own at 9:30 p.m.

The final day of the Heritage Gather starts at 10 a.m. on Sunday and runs until the afternoon.

⚾️ Hat City Classic

The Medicine Hat Little League’s Major AAA Mavs 12 and under baseball team hosts the Hat City Classic this weekend.

Games will be played at the Lions Field and McDonnell Field, both in or near Strathcona Island Park.

The Mavs schedule includes games Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Lions 1 Field, Saturday at 2 p.m. at McDonnell Field, Saturday at 8 p,m. at Lions 1 Field, Sunday at 11 a.m. at Lions 1 Field.

The championship game will be played on Sunday with the time to be determined.

🚣‍♀️ The Great Big Paddle

Saturday

The annual Great Big Paddle is back for 2025.

People are invited to bring their canoes and kayaks as the group leaves from Echodale Park Boat Launch at noon on Saturday.

The paddle will go from Echodale Park to the Strathcona Park Boat Launch.

Over 300 watercraft participated last year, according to organizers.

🐍 Snake Nature Walk

Saturday

The Snake Nature Walk is a relaxing walk around Police Point Park searching for snakes and learning interesting facts about them.

It takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

This is a free program to attend with no registration required, and run through the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program.

🚶 Historic Walking Tours

Explore the Historic Railroad District on a guided Walking Tour and learn how the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway helped build a thriving community.
Hear stories behind local landmarks and end at Hometown Culinary with an iced coffee for just 25 cents, the original 1947 price!

It takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and departs from Towne Square with limited space available.

Tickets are $20 available through tixx.ca.

🚒 BIG Truck Day Storytime

As part of Big Truck Day on Saturday the Medicine Hat Public Library will host a storytime at 10:30 a.m. in the Sage Room at the Big Marble Go Centre.
Kids ages 4-6 can join for truck-themed stories and songs before exploring the big machines outside in the parking lot.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. kids and kids-at-heart of all ages can explore mighty machines like a grader, bulldozer, street sweeper, tractor, fire truck, police armoured response vehicle, ambulance and more and maybe even climb inside.
There will also be food trucks on site.

🚴‍♂️ BMX Free Trial Day

Medicine Hat BMX is hosting one of its free track days this weekend.

Organizers say the goal is to allow people of all ages to experience what BMX racing is.

Attendees are asked to wear long pants, long sleeves and running shoes.

Those who have a full-faced helmet and riding gloves can bring them, but they are also supplied.

Those who own a bike can bring it but Medicine Hat BMX also has them ready to go.

The open track day runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

🚚 Food trucks

Sunday

A small food truck festival is taking place this weekend.

Pootys Poutine, Hucky Tucky, Rolled Ice Cream and Kona Ice will roll up to Kin Coulee Park for the event, according to an event page.

There will also be face painting by Katrina, live music and more.
