Medicine Hat man charged near Brooks after vehicle theft

A 26-year old Medicine Hat man has been charged with possession of stolen property in connection with a vehicle theft.

Brooks RCMP on Wednesday evening at about 7:17 p.m. received a report of a severely damaged, abandoned Jeep left running at the intersection of Township Road 184 and Range Road 171 west of Brooks.

The caller also reported seeing a suspicious male walking away from the vehicle.

Officers attended the scene and confirmed that the Jeep had been reported stolen.

The vehicle was subsequently towed from the location.

A call came in shortly after that a man had been picked from the area and given him a ride to Tim Hortons.

The caller provided a description to mounties after noticing police presence nearby, and that the individual may be a person interest.

Officers were able to locate the man who was remanded in custody awaiting a judicial release hearing.
