Brooks RCMP arrest man with stolen pickup truck facing multiple charges

Jun 25, 2025 | 7:17 AM

Brooks RCMP have arrested a man under investigation by authorities in multiple provinces after a pursuit Sunday morning.

An alert was received by Brooks RCMP from the Medicine Hat Police about a stolen pickup truck believed to be involved in serious offences within other jurisdictions heading towards the city at about 1 a.m. Sunday.

The vehicle had last been seen departing Medicine Hat and was believed to be travelling westbound on Highway 1.

Mounties located the vehicle as it entered Brooks city limits and attempted a traffic stop.

Mounties said the vehicle fled at a high speed, driving erratically through the city, disobeying traffic signs, and posing a danger to the public.

The suspect then continued westbound on Highway 1.

A short time later, the suspect pulled over on the highway shoulder.

As an officer approached the vehicle and gave verbal commands, Mounties said the suspect fled once again.

The pursuit continued and the vehicle was successfully disabled and the driver was arrested with assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services and Gleichen RCMP.

A 34-year old man from Manitoba was charged with the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, possession of stolen property and failure to comply with a release order.

Additional offences remain under investigation by other agencies in both Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The man was remanded into custody until a court date on Wednesday.
