The Dunmore Equestrian Society has brought back the chore team competition again this year, with it shifting inside the society’s indoor arena for the first time on Saturday.

Last years event was hosted outdoor on the rodeo grounds.

“We are very excited that our spectators will be able to watch this competition for the first time indoors out of the inclement weather,” said event organizer Glen Bischoff.

The event celebrates the history and skills of the draymen, who would collect goods and supplies from trains and drop them off to local businesses.

It will bring together teamsters from various areas of Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Teamsters will compete in a variety of events that showcase their expertise in navigating an obstacle course similar to challenges faced by the draymen.

The equestrian society said the competition promises to be bigger and better than ever, with new challenges and 10 teams competing for prizes.

Dunmore Equestrian Society member Blair Reid said they are excited to bring back the chore team competition.

“These teamsters spend a lot of time with their horses getting ready for this event. They are not new to competition, they follow a circuit including the competition at Agribition in Regina,” Reid said.

“This event highlights the strength and skill of our teams, celebrating heritage and also brings people together for a day of fun and camaraderie.”

Competitor Kyle Forbes says the Dunmore competition is one of his favorites to participate in.

“I go to a lot of these but this one is so very well run and the organizing team at Dunmore go above and beyond to make it great and easy for all of us to compete,” says Forbes.
