Jun 17, 2025 | 5:44 PM

The Medicine Hat Kinsmen Club‘s fifth annual Duck Derby is nearly sold out, organizers said Tuesday.

There will be up to 1,000 rubber ducks released into the stream at the Kin Coulee Park bridge starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28.

These individually numbered ducks will float down the creek towards a finish line with the fastest down stream winning the owner $3,000.

The owner of the second place duck takes home $2,000, with third place getting $1,000.

Ducks placing fourth through seventh win $500 each for the owner, while eighth through tenth taking home $250 each.

There will also be prizes for 10 lucky winners and a family activities on-site.

The fundraiser is one of a number the group does to help them provide financial support throughout the community.

Kinsmen member and chair of the fundraiser Cameron Kemp says they are getting very close to a sellout at $20 per duck.

“I think we have around just under 40 ducks available for sale online at mhkinsmen.ca/duckderby,” Kemp said.

“Some Kinsmen also have paper tickets to sell.”

Kemp said he is happy to connect people with those selling paper tickets and can be reached at cameronkemp@cjklaw.ca or at his office 403-487-5995.

Ticket sales run until Wednesday, June 25.

The Kinsmen Family Fun Day will get underway immediately following the duck release from noon until 2 p.m. at the bandshell in Kin Coulee Park.

“There’s some fun activities: there’s bouncy castles, pedal tractors, face painting, glitter tattoos — and the Kinsmen themselves sponsor that entire event for the kids,” Kemp said.

“We also provide and barbecue hot dogs, bottled water for anyone who’s in attendance.”
