May 30, 2025 | 2:11 PM

The registration deadline to compete in the Southern Alberta Summer Games is under a week away.

All municipalities must have their athletes registered by Thursday, June 5.

The games takes place this year in Taber July 2-5.

There are 24 different sports categories to register for with most available to all ages.

Cypress County regional director Jonah Carlsson said he enjoyed watching families competing together last year and was impressed by the opening ceremonies.

“It’s all ages, all abilities, it doesn’t matter your background or anything. You can be competing for your first time or your hundredth time, it really doesn’t matter,” Carlsson said.

“We’re just trying to get as many people involved in this grassroots kind of event.”

Medicine Hat regional director Easton Nugent said it’s a great way to build up the community, stay active and have fun.

“If you’re a pro, if you’re an amateur, you know, no matter what your skill level, whatever your age, we really just want you to come out and have a good time,” Nugent said.

“Some of our sports are more kid-specific, but a lot of our sports go from all ages. If you’re an adult looking for a sport opportunity it’s definitely worth checking out and seeing what we have to offer,” he added.

“We’ve got tons of sports and tons of availability.”

Sports included are:

  • 3/5/10 km run
  • 3-on-3 Basketball

The deadline is set to help with coordination of the event.

“That way we can for any team sports, make up the brackets. We can make sure that we have all the materials we need,” Nugent said.

“Taber’s got some really great facilities that we’re able to use and take advantage of this year, so just getting everything organized on their end.”
