Basement flood at CHAT TV studio, in photos

May 30, 2025 | 10:19 AM

Everything is out.

CHAT News staff was able to briefly visit the basement of the Pattison Media Centre home to the newsroom, production studio and editing suites.

Flooding on May 6 caused by a sanitary back up during a water main break has contaminated the carpeting, lower areas of drywall and any items on the floor.

Cranes Restoration workers pulled virtually everything from the basement and placed it in containers for later decontamination.

It has meant drastic changes for the news, production and various other staff that worked on the floor.

The CHAT Evening News was cancelled the day of the flooding but returned the next day in a half-hour format that is continued indefinitely.

The noon show, cancelled after the flooding, returned with its normal half-hour format on May 20.

Shows are pre-recorded — for now — and a boardroom on the third floor at CHAT News has been repurposed as a studio.

News staff entered the basement for the first time since the flooding this week and were able to record and take photos.
