Brooks Bandits draw even in BCHL Finals

May 22, 2025 | 10:43 AM

The Brooks Bandits have tied the BCHL Finals at two games a piece with a win on Wednesday night in Chilliwack.

A 4-1 victory over the Chiefs in Game 4 kept the Bandits from falling further behind in the best of seven series, after they had dropped the previous two contests.

Bandits goaltender Zach Zahara stopped 27 shots to help earn win number 14 of the post season for him and the Bandits.

Each team is now two wins away from raising the Fred Page Cup, which would be a first for the Bandits, and first for the Chiefs since returning to the city in 2011 after a five year hiatus when Chilliwack had a Western Hockey League franchise.

The current rendition of the Chiefs won a national junior A title as the host team in 2018.

The Quesnel Millionaires before moving to Chilliwack to become the current Chiefs had never won the BCHL title.

The previous franchise that competed in Chilliwack, moved to Langley and held the Chiefs name until 2011, but became the Rivermen after a BCHL team returned to Chilliwack.

That original edition of the Chiefs had won three BCHL league titles in 1995, 2000 and 2002 during their 16 years in Chilliwack.

The Bandits have won the national junior A championship four times and the AJHL title seven times.

In Game 4 the Bandits scoring was spread across four different players, with a goal in each period as well as an empty netter from forward Nick Peluso with a minute and 39 seconds left in the third.

Peluso has a seven game points streak going, as does Bandits defenseman Keith McInnis who had an assist in the contest.

Scoring the lone goal for the Chiefs was captain Mateo Mrsic, who has found the back of the net now in five straight games.

Chiefs goaltender Quentin Miller turned aside 36 of 39 shots in the loss.

Game 5 goes Friday at the Centennial Regional Arena in Brooks with a 7 p.m. puck drop.

Tickets for the contest are available online.
