What to know: Medicine Hat promotes eTax system for residents amid potential strike

May 20, 2025 | 2:20 PM

The City of Medicine Hat is raising awareness over its newly updated online tax payment system ahead of a potential Canada Post strike.

Medicine Hat will mail property tax notices on May 21, meaning they are legally deemed to be received, the city said Monday.

However, the Canada Post collective agreements expire May 22, so a strike could start the day after the notices are mailed out and disrupt their delivery.

Those notices have the code required for residents to access their online eTax account but the city says property owners can contact the city.

On eTax, users can access view their assessment and property tax notices online, sign up for paperless billing and pay their taxes with a credit card.

Residents who want their access code or assistance setting up eTax can contact Customer Care at 403-529-8111, tax@medicinehat.ca or visit in person on the main floor of city hall.

Users will then create an eTax account at medicinehat.ca/eTax.

Property taxes are due June 30, 2025. An 8.5 per cent late penalty is charged on unpaid tax balances on July 1.

If there is no strike, the mailed paper copies will be delivered as usual.
