Medicine Hat hockey players win at Alberta Prospects Cup

It was a championship finish for several Medicine Hat area hockey players at the 2025 Alberta Prospects Cup.

The tournament took place in Red Deer from May 7-11 with seven locals as part of the showcase tournament of some of the top 2012 born hockey players in the province.

There were eight teams with 160 athletes competing.

The final came down to two teams made up of players from southern Alberta, with Medicine Hat represented on both sides.

Team Gold defeated Team Black in the championship game 3-2 on Sunday.

Forwards Weston Haslbeck, Teddy Maser, Beckam Sprunger and defenseman Hudson Gilchrist won top spot with Team Gold.

Forwards Diesel Bishop, Raylan Johnson and goaltender Hunter Knoll where on the second place Team Black.

Haslbeck and Johnson each had an assist for their respective teams in the championship game.

Johnson also was part of the Highlight of the Day on Saturday with a nice deke and pass for an assist.

All seven players where part of the Medicine Hat Hounds U13 AA team that competed in the Alberta Elite Hockey League during the 2024-25 season.

The South East Athletic Club Tigers U17 AAA assistant coach JD Gaetan was also selected as a assistant coach for Team Red during the tournament.

While the SEAC Tigers U17 AAA trainer Megan Sehn also worked at the Prospects Cup.
