A former Medicine Hat resident who has found herself at odds with nearly every local elected official is now taking one of them to court.

Nicole Frey, who once launched a petition to get the mayor removed, is suing Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Justin Wright for defamation, abuse of public office, violation of Charter rights and discrimination due to disability.

Frey said Monday that Wright told the city she was harassing him because she posted information about his business.

“MLA Wright, in his elected office capacity, contacted the City of Medicine and accused me of harassing and endangering him and his family,” Frey said.

“Based on my sharing of publicly available information off of the city’s website for an awarded contract for his private business, and it was an address that he put in himself.”

CHAT News has not researched or verified all of Frey’s claims in the lawsuit.

Frey and her husband still own a home in Medicine Hat and are taxpayers in the city.

Frey in her suit said Premier Danielle Smith was receptive to her concerns in a meeting last year.

Smith’s office, in response to a CHAT News request for comment, said it would be inappropriate for the premier to comment on a case before the court.

Wright has not yet responded to a request for comment.
