‘A good test’: Motz says sunken polls concerning Conservatives in Medicine Hat

Apr 13, 2025 | 12:50 PM

Glen Motz, Conservative candidate and incumbent MP for the Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner region, said he “doesn’t care” what projected polls say, while going door-to-door in Medicine Hat.

“[It’s] a good test for Canadians who are concerned, Conservative people who are concerned about these polls- they have us losing,” he told CHAT News Saturday.

“Quite honestly, I don’t believe that for a second.”

Motz and his team visited with supporters and non-supporters alike throughout Redcliff, regarding the upcoming federal election on April 28.

He said the reception in Redcliff is “about average” compared to Medicine Hat, but across the riding he’s seen consistent support of Conservatives.

Current polls project Conservatives federally holding 122 seats, whereas Liberals hold 194.

Motz said when the final vote is counted, it’ll be the one that matters.

“I’m not a poll watcher. I don’t get consumed by them,” he said.

“You look at the rallies that conservatives have had, that Pierre’s had in non-held Liberal or NDP ridings across the country, and he gets thousands and thousands of people that come out.”

Motz said the people at rallies are not necessarily responding to the polls, but they’re the Canadians who want to see change.

He says it speaks volumes to what’s really going on in Canada.

Motz said that at the end of the day, no party will outwork the Conservatives.

He said a party doesn’t deserve an election win, but rather “earns it” —through hard work.

He said it’s earned by knocking on thousands of doors, which his team has done already.

“I tell my team here locally, we don’t deserve to win this. We earn it. And we earn it by the policies we bring forward. We earn it by the effort that we put in,” he said.

“We earn it by the commitment we have to our voting base here. They matter. And the fact that we’re out in Redcliff and we’re going to do the entire town today, it matters,” he added.

“The voices here matter as much as they do anywhere else in Canada and across the riding. And so we work hard to earn the privilege to serve Canadians.”

Motz said if Conservatives are privileged to serve in the next government, that’s something that they earn.

He said he’s heard a lot of people saying the Liberals have been consistent in blocking off the energy sector and stifling its growth and investment.

Motz said people want Canada to develop its own resources, and eliminate interprovincial trade barriers.

He said affordability is a common concern, and that supporters want the carbon tax act entirely eliminated.

He said the tax should be eliminated not only on the consumer end, but on what he says the Liberals call “heavy emitters”, which trickles down to the consumer.

“The economy weighs heavily. The affordability issue weighs heavily on people as well,” he said.

“All the things that we’ve been doing to speak to that, and help people deal with that, so that you’re able to keep more of your hard-earned money,” he added.

“That’s what Canadians, and people in this riding, are saying loud and clear.”
