Apr 1, 2025 | 10:24 AM

As beneficial as reading a good book can be, the library offers so much more to be involved in the community.

Here are the top five things to do at the Medicine Hat Public Library in April 2025.

National Poetry Month Kits and Contest

Starts April 1 (ages 10-19)

To celebrate National Poetry Month, the MHPL will have poetry kits for tweens and teens.

The kits will have poetry prompts, how-tos and materials to inspire. Kits are first-come, first-served and a limited number are available.

For teens there’s also a writing contest. Submit a poem online before April 30 and contestants could win a writing mentorship meeting with local poet and author Olivia M. Geib.

Spring Book Sale

April 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and April 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It’s back! The Friends of the Medicine Hat Public Library is hosting another book sale.

Find thousands of gently-used fiction and non-fiction books for all ages, DVDs, CDs, magazines and board games.

Spring Bunny Scavenger Hunt

April 19-27 (ages 0-12)

Hop to the Kinsmen Children’s Library for an egg-citing bunny adventure. Dressed as your favourite book and TV characters like Elmo, Bluey and Bad Kitty, our fluffy friends are hiding all around the library, waiting for you to find them. Don’t miss out on this hopping good time.

Self-Publishing 101 With Olivia M. Geib

April 24 at 6 p.m.

If you’ve ever considered self-publishing, you should join Olivia M. Geib, a local independent author of two novels — “The Daughter of Fire and Fury” and “The Princess of Secrets and Shadows”.

Learn about the steps to self-publishing, if it’s the right option for you, and the nitty-gritty details of all Geib’s learned in the industry.

Plant Exchange

April 26 at 2 p.m.

Plant enthusiasts, get ready to talk about all things plants! Bring your unwanted plants or cuttings to the library in exchange for another plant or cutting.

The MHPL will be welcoming the Medicine Hat and District Horticultural Society to help patrons transplant their plants and give advice on plant care.
