Medicine Hat Tigers’ Lindstrom reported to play NCAA next season

U.S. journalist Aaron Portzline is reporting that injured Medicine Hat Tigers forward Cayden Lindstrom is likely to play for the University of Michigan Wolverines starting in the fall.

Portzline said there was “nothing official” regarding a committment and there’s been no public confirmation.

Recent rule changes have allowed players from the Canadian major junior leagues to play in the NCAA next season.

Lindstrom was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets last June, but hasn’t played for the Tigers since last April, due to a back injury and recovery from surgery.

He has been living in Columbus since shortly after being drafted, under the watch of Blue Jackets medical staff.

Lindstrom was named to Team Canada’s roster for a summer showcase in August but was held out from playing at the event.

During that interview Lindstrom said that playing with the Tigers has helped every bit of his game tremendously.

“Willie’s been a great coach for me for the past two seasons. He’s helped me gain my confidence as a player and as a person as well. Same with all the assistant coaches,” Lindstrom said.

“They’ve really helped me become a really strong, power-forward centreman with skill as well, and just the whole team in general. All the guys have been great.”
