The Medicine Hat Police Service recruitment team is hosting a career fair Monday at the police station to highlight various jobs available on an ongoing basis.

MHPS is currently recruiting police officers with an application deadline of May 1.

Constable Kinsi Steiger said after applying for the position, there are two written tests, a fitness test, a panel interview, and a polygraph examination followed by a very competitive selection process.

In the last couple of years when recruiting at trade shows, the MHPS was always asked about civilian positions, according to Steiger.

She said the recruitment team then thought of having internal, other moving parts of the police service highlight their different sections, and how people can apply.

“The Commissionaires are going to be there, so they work in our cell block, they do photo radar, they do parking enforcement,” she said.

“We’re going to have our Information Management section, so that’s all the administrative roles, like clerks for police, all that sort of stuff,” she added.

“We’re going to have our Bylaw section, and we are also going to have our Victim Services, so there’s also volunteer positions available as well with Victim Services.”

Steiger said, with the hiring fair, there is something for everyone — including police, civilian, and volunteer opportunities.

The career fair on March 31 runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the community boardroom at the police station.
