Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat and area: March 28-30

The playoff run begins for the Medicine Hat Tigers.

It’s colder this weekend. Friday will bring a high of 1 C while Saturday and Sunday both top out at 2 C, according to the Environment Canada forecast.

Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat and area.

🐅 Tigers playoff run begins

This weekend

The Medicine Hat Tigers will this week kick off their playoff campaign against the Swift Current Broncos.

The first two games of the best-of-seven first-round series will take place at Co-op Place.

The Tigers will then head to Swift Current for games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Should the series extend past four games, Medicine Hat is scheduled to play host to the Broncos for the fifth and seventh games.

The Tigers secured the home-ice advantage for the opening playoff series with a pair of crucial wins over the weekend.

It marks the first Central Division crown for the Tigers since the 2017-18 season and their first conference title since the 2006-07 season.

🏒Iceberg Classic

The Medicine Hat Iceberg Classic, Alberta’s largest 3 on 3 youth hockey tournament is taking over arenas around the city Friday through Saturday.

It’s free for the public to watch these young hockey players in action with games at the Kinplex, Hockey Hounds and Big Marble Go Centre.

An online 50/50 draw is being hosted at the event with proceeds going to the Margery E Yuill Cancer Centre in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital to support cancer patients in Medicine Hat and area.

🏑Try Ball Hockey Day

The Gas City Ball Hockey League is hosting their second annual Try Ball Hockey Day Sunday at the Moose Recreation Centre.

Whether you are a seasoned youth player, or brand new to the sport you are invited to come out and see what all the buzz is about.

The registration deadline for the season has been extended to April 4.

A helmet, gloves, shin pads and a stick are required to play.

Goalie equipment can be supplied for the day.

Registration is not required with the following times for age groups.

  • 6u division – 11:00 – 12:00 pm
  • 9u division – 12:00 – 1:30 pm
  • 11u division – 1:30 – 2:45 pm
  • 13u division – 2:45 – 4:00 pm

A second opportunity will be hosted on Wednesday night for the 11u, 13u, 15u and 18u divisions.

🥍️Junior A Lacrosse Game this weekend

An exhibition Jr. A lacrosse game will be hosted on Saturday in Medicine Hat between the Calgary Mountaineers and Calgary Raiders of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.

Game time is 3 p.m. at the Moose Recreation Centre with the doors opening at 1:30 p.m.

Admission is $10 for Adults, with players and youth free.

🧶 Hat Grannies sale

Saturday

The Hat Grannies for Africa are holding a fabric, yarn and more sale on Saturday.

It will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. John’s Presbyterian Church and admission is $2.

The half-price sale will run from noon until 2 p.m.

Purchases are cash only. Donations are also welcome.

🐇 Bunny fundraiser

Blossom and Bird Tattoo Studio is hosting a fundraiser for Bunny Run Rabbit Rescue this weekend.

It runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the studio. All tiny tattoo proceeds will go to support the rescue charity.

There will also be a raffle, organizers say.

🎨 Pop and paint

Sunday

The “Mommy & Me” Pop and Paint workshop is taking place this weekend.

These are great projects and lots of fun for all ages, organizers say.

Participants can make one for $20 or do both for $30. Everything is included to complete the project.

🏳️‍ Trans Day of Visibility

Monday

A Trans Day of Visibility event Monday night will offer a chance to forge new connections and strengthen existing ones, organizers say.

Participants will meet at the Park Toboggan Hill shelter before heading off on “a community-driven stroll through the park, flaunting your true colours and showing off your fabulous flags!”

For those not a fan of walking will be able to wrap up by a fire and partake in marshmallow roasting.

“All allies, families, and friends are warmly welcome,” according to an event description.

“Let’s stand together in solidarity and create memories to cherish.”

The event runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.
