South East Athletic Club no longer operating AAA hockey teams

Mar 27, 2025 | 5:48 PM

The South East Athletic Club executive team published a letter on Thursday saying they are formally terminating an existing agreement with Medicine Hat Minor Hockey.

The agreement had SEAC responsible for the management and operation of the three Tigers AAA hockey teams in the city, with the change effective 60 days from Thursday.

The executive said the decision did not come lightly.

“The South East Athletic Club (SEAC) has always been guided by our core values of integrity, teamwork, respect, and community,” it said in a statement.

“To continue to adhere to our core values, the South East Athletic Club (SEAC) Executive determined that continuing with the existing agreement was no longer in the best interest of the organization, our players and our mission to support elite hockey development in the South East region of Alberta.”

The club acknowledged the change may bring uncertainty, but that they are committed to ensuring a smooth transition over the coming weeks.

“We hope and trust that this change will allow for new opportunities to help continue supporting elite hockey development in the South East region of Alberta,” the statement added.

SEAC has not yet responded to a CHAT News request for comment.

The Medicine Hat Minor Hockey organization is expected to have a response next week.
