Medicine Hat police lay charges after business owner threatened with gun

Mar 24, 2025 | 10:50 AM

Medicine Hat police have tracked down a man who allegedly pointed a firearm at a local business owner in September 2024.

The business owner told police he received a phone call that prompted him to leave his house to check on a property, according to a Monday news release.

Once he was outside and in his vehicle, a male with a mask approached him and pointed a firearm at the driver’s window.

The victim then reacted quickly to escape and promptly dialed 911, according to the Medicine Hat Police Service.

A 47-year-old Redcliff man was arrested after an “extensive investigation” that involved multiple judicial authorizations, police said.

The man was charged with attempted robbery, assault with a weapon, use of an imitation firearm and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.

The investigation established that the victim was known to the suspect and it was a targeted incident with an intent to rob the business owner, police reported.

The Redcliff man is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Medicine Hat on April 16.
