Canada’s Courtney Hoffos wins silver medal at ski cross world championship

SAINT MORITZ — Canada’s Courtney Hoffos claimed silver in women’s ski cross at the freestyle skiing world championships on Friday.

World Cup champion Fanny Smith of Switzerland won gold, while Germany’s Daniela Maier took bronze.

India Sherret of Cranbrook, B.C., finished eighth.

Hoffos, from Windermere, B.C., had three podium finishes on this season’s World Cup tour, including a silver at the Canadian stop at Craigleith Ski Club earlier this month.

It is the 27-year-old’s first medal at the world championships.
