Friends of Medicine Hat Public Library holding book sale

Mar 20, 2025 | 11:31 AM

The Friends of the Medicine Hat Public Library book sale is making a return.

The spring book sale is on from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 4 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 5.

A friends of the library member Sue Masterman said in a news release that she likes to see all the new community members that come.

“It’s exciting to perhaps introduce new people to the library, as well as welcome back a host of people who make it make it their opportunity to buy books once or twice a year,” Masterman said.

Book sales, the largest of the fund-raising activities the friends group does, typically raise about $5,000, said Sue, who adds all the money goes back to the library in one way or another.

“Sometimes the library has a greater need, for example the nursing area for mothers orsomething for the children’s library. But sometimes it will be a smaller item as well, perhaps chairs,” Masterman said.

Gently-used fiction and non-fiction books for all ages, DVDs, CDs, magazines andboard games will be accepted for sale, organizers said.

Textbooks, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, cassettes, vinyl records and items more than 15 years old will not be accepted

The library will be taking donations until March 30. Donors are asked take materials tothe tables behind the theatre on the lower level.

Everything sold at the book sale comes from donations by the public and discarded materials from the library’s collection.
