Mar 19, 2025 | 3:30 PM

The City of Medicine Hat revealed Wednesday it hired Jilian Campbell as its new chief financial officer and managing director of corporate services.

Campbell will relocate to the city from Edmonton where she served as manager of strategic planning and financial coordination with Strathcona County from 2021 to 2025.

Prior to that, she held municipal leadership positions in finance, strategic planning, internal controls, customer service centres, and budget planning with the City of Edmonton for over 20 years.

“We are excited to welcome Jilian onboard,” Medicine Hat chief administrator Ann Mitchell said in a released statement.

“She brings significant experience in municipal budget planning to our organization, and we look forward to having her on the executive leadership team.”

She replaces Dennis Egert, who suddenly exited the CFO role in January for reasons that have yet to be disclosed. Egert was one of many high-level city hall departures in recent months.

Campbell has a bachelor’s degree in accounting science from the University of Calgary, as well as a Chartered Professional Accountant designation.

The city said in a news release that Campbell’s core skills include financial acumen and stewardship, strategic leadership and governance, compliance, internal audit and controls.

She also holds a Lean Green Belt certification from the Leading Edge Group.

“I am honoured to join the City of Medicine Hat and I look forward to collaborating and connecting with the organization to support the community,” said Campbell.

Campbell’s first day will be March 31.
