RCMP seize SKS rifle, replica firearms and a knife at Brooks residence

An SKS rifle was seized along with several replica firearms and a bowie knife at a Brooks residence on Wednesday, police say.

Brooks RCMP, with assistance of the Mounties’ southern emergency response unit, executed a firearms search warrant at about 9 a.m. on a residence in the Sunny Lea area of the city.

The rifle was recovered with 50 rounds of ammunition readily accessible, police said in a Thursday news release.

Additional ammunition was seized in the residence along with numerous replica firearms and a large bowie knife that was possessed contrary to release conditions, police said.

A 40-year-old was charged with charged with various firearms offenses. The individual was released on conditions following a bail hearing.

A 25-year-old man was charged with possessing ammunition and knife contrary to a prohibition order. He remains in custody pending his next appearance in court.

The Brooks Mounties thanked the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods branch of the Alberta Sheriffs for their assistance in the investigation.

The SCAN unit recently helped Medicine Hat police shut down a drug house in the city’s south end.
