Medicine Hat, along with much of Alberta, remains under extreme cold warning

Feb 18, 2025 | 12:00 PM

An extreme cold warning remains in place for Medicine Hat and much of eastern Alberta this afternoon.

Environment Canada issued a warning of a wind chill of -46 C this morning, and -36 C this afternoon.

Temperatures will moderate somewhat during the day but return to the harsh cold overnight and into Wednesday, according to the national weather service.

However, conditions will begin to moderate all around by mid week, the alert says.

Extreme cold risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors and those without proper shelter, the alert added.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
