Open call for southeastern Alberta artists to submit proposals to has work showcased

Feb 7, 2025 | 2:11 PM

Artists in southeastern Alberta looking to expand the reach of their work could have that opportunity through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts‘ Travelling Exhibition program.

TREX Southeast has put out an open call for exhibition proposals from artists of all backgrounds and experience levels in this area of the province to submit their work.

The area includes Medicine Hat, Brooks, Lethbridge and surrounding communities.

The exhibits will travel around the province year-round in venues that include spaces like schools, libraries, senior centres, and some smaller galleries in a variety of communities.

Sierra Zukowski, program manager and curator, says the exhibitions can be any theme, medium or content, but anything tied into a school curriculum would be a bonus.

“People can submit an exhibition proposal that sort of explains their work, some themes, some interest behind what they’re working on, maybe what medium or style they’re working in and with that also an artist’s bio that just kind of describes who they are,” Zukowksi said.

“Then some images of work and that can be work in progress, if they’re working on a new body of work, or it can be pre-existing work.”

Zukowski said they usually do this call every two years, and want to see as many people as possible apply to know what people are working on and get to know them.

The deadline to apply by is the end of February, with applications available through the TREX website.
