The Medicine Hat Public Library has seen the addition of an even more isolated space sound-wise, and the first user was eager to utilize it.

“I just had to jump to it,” said Brooke.

“For a while now, I’ve been waiting for some kind of room like this, that is very accessible and doesn’t cost a bunch to rent out.”

The booth will meet a wide range of needs for all kinds of library patrons.

Chief Librarian Ken Feser said that it’s great to have a busy, active library but such a room is required to meet the needs of more patrons.

“Sometimes it can be hard to find the peace and quiet that some people want,” Feser said in a released statement.

The WhisperRoom also acts as a quiet acoustic space for audio recording and production.

It was generously donated by the Sameshima family, and a second modular meeting room is expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

Brooke said that the space allows her to not bother anyone at home.

She herself has used the booth for singing practice.

“I think it contributes a lot,” she said.

“There is a very large fine arts community and I think for actors and singers and even musicians to have a space like this where they can go to foster their skills and stuff like that, I think it’ll contribute tons to our community.”

The WhisperRoom can be used as a quiet space to study, to record a podcast, for musical instrument practice, or to take important video calls.

Library card holders can now book the room for 55-minute sessions, up to twice a day.
