Jan 11, 2025 | 3:55 PM

A special weather statement has been issued for Medicine Hat, Cypress County and the rest of southeast Alberta.

Environment Canada says in an alert that this morning will see periods of rain mixed with snow changing to snow. Local snowfall amount will be 2 cm.

There will be wind northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50 km/h this evening.

It says 25 to 50 centimetres of snow is expected for the Cypress Hills this weekend.

It warns of poor travel conditions on area highways, including Highway 41. An Elkwater local shared video of the current hazardous conditions of the highway as of the afternoon of Jan. 11.

In Elkwater and areas to its east, south and west in Saskatchewan, the alert is upgraded to a snowfall warning.

Blowing snow will cause reductions to visibility but taper off by Sunday night, the national weather agency reported.
