Medicine Hat issues warning over icy trails

Dec 18, 2024 | 4:55 PM

The City of Medicine Hat is warning residents about potential slippery sections of trail due to several recent freeze-thaw cycles and light snowfalls.

While city crews are actively performing snow clearing and traction control measures, ice may still form in certain areas of the trail system, the city said in a news release.

It advised residents to exercise caution and be vigilant while walking, jogging or cycling on trails. Residents should look out for ice patches and proceed with care.

Residents should also wear appropriate footwear, use handrails, stay on designated paths and slow down.

Hatters can stay informed by checking weather reports and for trail closures before heading out.

Residents who encounter unsafe conditions on trails that receive snow removal are asked to report them to the Parks and Recreation department at 403-529-8333 or submit a ticket through the city’s Report a Problem portal.
