It happened between Highway 842 and Highway 56, with initial reports that over 12 vehicles are involved in the pile up, which is in the westbound lanes.

The highway is closed in the Cluny area and motorists are being detoured north on Highway 56.

As well, there’s a jacknifed semi blocking the west bound lanes east of Strathmore.

It also includes the area from south of Innisfail to just north of Fort Macleod.

As of 2:30 p.m. on Monday traffic was still backed up for several kilometres heading westbound on the Trans-Canada highway.
