Nov 12, 2024 | 10:41 PM

A hockey game played on Sunday in Medicine Hat helped raise a large amount of money for the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.

The Cancer Awareness game hosted by the SEAC Tigers U17 AAA hockey team set a new fundraising record for the annual game, bringing in $11,866.73, doubling last years total of $5,743.35.

The Tigers were joined on ice at the start of the game by their opponent the Lethbridge Headwater Hurricanes to recognize those affected by cancer.

A number of individuals who have battled or are currently battling cancer where honoured at the game.

This included Tigers goalie Carson Jerome, a parent of a former SEAC Tigers player Danae Collier, and an uncle of a current SEAC Tigers player Denny Seibel.

The funding total was accomplished through raffles, a silent auction, team made Caramel Popcorn sales, a 50/50 and sponsorship donations.

Money raised will help support local cancer patients get treatment that is not offered in Medicine Hat, helping with travel costs.

The Hurricanes came away with a close 6-5 win at the Kinplex Arena, with an estimated 400 fans in attendance.
