‘Super cool’: Grade 6 student chosen as Medicine Hat’s fire chief for a day

It was a special moment for Grade 6 student Emma Lee when she was recently chosen as Medicine Hat’s fire chief for a day.

Lee went to school last Wednesday without a clue she’d be selected.

“They came in for the chief of the day and I had no idea it was going to be me,” the River Heights Elementary School student said.

“So, I was just super surprised!”

From spraying the hose to donning gear, Emma got to do it all as chief.

Her ride? A fire truck.

She even gave some orders.

“I made somebody do some push-ups,” Emma told CHAT News.

For Emma, it was an experience she’ll never forget.

“It’s super cool and I’m super grateful for it,” she said.

“And, thank you to everybody that helped me get to it!”
