Gas station offers veteran discounts week before Remembrance Day

Nov 6, 2024 | 4:29 PM

On Remembrance Day we honour those who gave their lives to serve our country.

In the days leading up to Remembrance Day, various businesses offer discounts to those who served and continue to serve.

The Esso gas station on South Railway Street, across from the Redi Bottle Depot, is showing their appreciation for veterans this week.

A ten-cent per liter discount has been applied at the pumps for veterans and current members of the forces, from Nov. 5 until the end of Remembrance Day on Nov. 11.

Travis Wells, owner and operator of the Esso gas station, has been putting on the discount annually, as his way of honoring veterans in town.

“My dad had started it thirteen years ago, because he was part of the South Alberta Light Horse, and he’s a veteran, so is my brother, and he just wanted to do something for the community and we’ve just continued it on,” Wells said.

The discount is available to all veterans, but also the South Alberta Light Horse Foundation and the Royal Alberta United Services Institute.

Also included are the Canadian Forces Units, BATUS and all Military personnel, the National Defence, and Royal Canadian Legion Members.

Wells stated how he would recommend others show their respect and support for those who have served.

“Just honour the veterans, and go down to the Remembrance Day celebration,” Wells said.

Wells said that everything we have today is because of the veterans, so it is crucial that we convey forms of gratitude to them such as what their station is offering.
