Medicine Hat Tigers trade struggling goalie for future draft picks

The Medicine Hat Tigers on Monday traded goalie Ethan McCallum to the Saskatoon Blades for a pair of future fourth-round picks.

McCallum, of Brandon, Man., was originally drafted by the Tigers in the second round of the 2021 Western Hockey League draft.

He played 28 games for the orange and black over two seasons, acquiring a 12-9-1-0 record.

The 18-year-old was in the mix among a trio of starter-calibre goalies that made up the roster at the beginning of the current season.

He struggled in the five games he started for the Tigers this year, acquiring a 4.09 goals against average and .835 save percentage.

“We really appreciated his hard work and dedication. We wish Ethan all the best.”

The Blades gave the Tigers a 2027 fourth-round pick and a 2028 fourth-round conditional pick.
