Medicine Hat Tigers sign former SAHA forward Cunningham

The injury-depleted Medicine Hat Tigers have added some help at forward by signing former South Albert Hockey Academy player Carter Cunningham.

It was announced the 18-year-old from Lethbridge, put pen to paper on a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement on Thursday.

Cunningham started the season with the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, putting up four goals and 11 assists for 15 points through the first 13 games of the season.

Bobby Fox, Tigers director of player personnel, said in a statement Cunningham is an explosive forward that’ll be a force on both ends of the ice.

“Carter is a powerful two-way forward who effectively utilizes his size and excels at protecting the puck,” Fox said.

“He will make valuable contributions at both ends of the rink.”

Cunningham, born in 2006 played the 2023-24 season with SAHA’s U18 Prep team putting up 16 goals, 20 assists and 36 points in 30 games to finish second on the team in points.

In the 2022-23 season he split time between the Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL putting up an assist in three games played, and the Lethbridge Hurricanes U18 AAA team Alberta Elite Hockey League.

With the Hurricanes, Cunningham had 18 goals, 23 assists and 41 points in 38 games.
