Medicine Hat’s Mustard Seed shelter evacuated after fire

A fire inside Medicine Hat’s Mustard Seed shelter forced those that use its services to find somewhere else to sleep overnight.

A sign on the door of the shelter, located in the south River Flats, says it will not be available tonight.

Residents had to find alternate accommodations after a fire that started after 9 p.m. Monday.

A maintenance worker told CHAT News the fire was due to an issue with a dishwasher.

The damage to the contents is estimated at $10,000.
