City of Medicine Hat holding food waste pilot program open house

Sep 13, 2024 | 4:58 PM

The City of Medicine Hat is holding an open house on Sept. 17 for its Food Waste Collection Pilot Program.

It will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the main floor lobby of the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre.

Representatives from the city and Dillon Consulting Limited will be in attendance to provide an update on the program’s progress, gather in-person feedback and discuss plans for the future of food waste composting in Medicine Hat.

The city rolled out the program to about 25 per cent of Medicine Hat’s residents in April.

Program participants get a food waste-specific container that they place with the rest of their garbage for regular pickup.

The pilot program runs until the end of December.

If it’s successful, an organics and composting program could be implemented city-wide.
