Open houses for Hwy 3 twinning taking place in Medicine Hat, Seven Persons

Sep 10, 2024 | 1:30 PM

A pair of public information sessions for the Highway 3 twinning between Whitla and Medicine Hat are scheduled for this week.

The first of the open houses will take place in the Big Eagle room at Medicine Hat College on Tuesday.

A second session will take place at the Seven Persons Community Hall on Wednesday.

Both run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on their respective days.

There will be two more sessions in 2025, according to the Alberta government’s project page.

The Whitla-to-Medicine Hat section of twinning — expanding a two-lane road to four lanes — is just the latest area to get twinned.

Those at the information sessions will be able to see the preliminary design of the highway twinning.

The sessions in spring 2025 will include a detailed design.

The start of construction does not yet have a date.

Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors confirmed AECOM and ISL Engineering as consulting team partners to complete the design and construction administration.

The project will consider input from adjacent landowners and businesses, stakeholders including community groups, the City of Medicine Hat, County of Forty Mile, and Cypress County.

First Nations consultation is ongoing, according to project display boards.
