Recent immigrants shut out of strong wage growth as unemployment rises in Canada
Canada’s unemployment rate continued to trend higher in August — reaching 6.6 per cent — as the job market slowdown hits workers and job seekers unevenly.
Alberta’s unemployment rate was up in August, despite a net gain in jobs.
Stats Canada says the jobless rate rose by 0.6 per cent to 7.7 per cent.
Overall employment was up by around 13-thousand last month, as the job market shifted towards part-time work and away from full-time positions.
