The Mexican Hat restaurant is staying open and in the hands of its original owners after refusing a buy out offer, according to a new post to social media.

“We need to set the record straight: a few weeks ago there was an offer from a local business looking to take over our restaurant and we considered this could work for us,” the post read.

“When the buyers didn’t came up with a clear vision of what the restaurant would be like, negotiations were terminated and we decided to stay in business.”

Mexican Hat was one of several businesses listed for sale in July.

Several owners, such as Carrie Dhensaw of Moose and Squirrel Bistro and Christina Carry of Casa Amigos, placed the blame of recent business declines on construction and lack of support from the city.

Mexican Hat in its post said it has a lot of respect for its customers and will let them know if they decide to sell in the future.

“We have a huge deal of respect for our clients and the community in general, so we thought it was necessary to say what happened and if in the future something like this happens again we’ll be taking enough time to announce it and make sure that our loyal customers know,” said the post.

“We can’t thank you enough for your comments and concerns about this and we are looking forward to seeing you soon.”
