Medicine Hat residents facing weapon assault charges after gun fired

Two Medicine Hat residents have received weapons assault charges after a gun was fired in the Tower Estates area earlier this month, police said Friday.

After an ongoing dispute between two males, several individuals arrived at a residence in the early hours of Aug. 3.

As the confrontation escalated, one of the men discharged a handgun and wounded a visitor, the Medicine Hat Police Service reported.

A 36-year-old was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of controlled substances and bail violations, according to a police statement.

Another 36-year-old faces charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, unlawful possession of a firearm and related firearms offenses.

Both individuals remain in custody following judicial hearings, police said.

The police service is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact major crimes investigators at 403-529-8481.

No further details were revealed on Friday.
