Medicine Hat Tigers forward McKenna playing in Hlinka Gretzky Cup

Gavin McKenna of the Medicine Hat Tigers will represent Team Canada at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton.

The 16-year-old forward returns to the U18 stage for Canada only months after setting a Canadian record for goals and points at a single IIHF U18 World Championship.

McKenna put up 20 points including 10 goals and 10 assists in seven games during thr tournament in April and May, a key contributor for Canada’s gold medal in Finland.

The main schedule of the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup runs Monday, Aug. 5, through Saturday, Aug. 10, at Rogers Place and the Downtown Community Arena in Edmonton, Alta.

Canada will play a pair of pre-tournament games, taking on Slovakia Thursday at Bill Hunter Arena in Edmonton, and then Czechia Saturday at Edmonton’s Downtown Community Arena.
