Alberta radio stations come together for Jasper ‘Day of Caring’

Jul 31, 2024 | 4:15 PM

Every radio station across Alberta has come together to hold a major fundraising effort for Jasper today.

The small resort town and national park was ravaged by wildfire last week, with many people losing their homes and businesses.

LIVE: Fundraiser updates for Alberta Day of Caring for Jasper

The Alberta Day of Caring for Jasper, an effort led by Pattison Media, will feature two ways to help: a bottle drive and direct Canadian Red Cross donations.

Anyone wishing to participate can bring their empty recyclable bottles and cans to any bottle depot in Alberta and say “these are for Jasper”.

Those who are interested in dropping off bottles can find the nearest depot at FindADepot.ca.

There are two depots in Medicine Hat: REDI on South Railway Street and Shamrock on Altawana Drive Northeast.

The drive will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with proceeds going to the Canadian Red Cross and those impacted by the wildfire, according to organizers.

Plastic pop bottles, aluminum pop cans, juice boxes and pouches, milk cartons and glass juice bottles are among the items that can be dropped off, according to the Alberta Bottle Depot Association.

Drinkable yogurt containers, water bottles, alcohol bottles and vegetable juice cans are also included on a list from the association.

All donations on Wednesday will be matched by the provincial and federal governments, so donations made will have triple the impact, organizers said.

All Gas King fuel station locations will be donating five cents per litre for all fuel sold on Wednesday to the Red Cross, its president Brent Morris said.

Gas King has two locations in Medicine Hat: 642 Kingsway Ave. SE and 2 Third St. NE.

Tune into CHAT TV, Wild 94.5 and MY96 on Wednesday for coverage of the fundraising efforts.
