A 46-year-old suspected drug dealer has been arrested by Medicine Hat police for a third time in the past year.

The woman was arrested by ALERT Medicine Hat’s organized crime team, with help from the Medicine Hat Police Service, after an investigation.

Police seized 30 grams of cocaine, one gram of fentanyl, five grams of methamphetamine and 14 grams of psilocybin at a home in the South Ridge neighbourhood.

The suspect was charged with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, as well as three counts of breaching court order, police said.

The woman was charged in October 2023 for offences related to trafficking fentanyl.

She was charged again in connection to a separate investigation in December 2023 for possession of methamphetamine, as well as breaching her release order.

She remains in custody and and is scheduled to appear in court on July 30.

Another suspect, a 35-year-old Medicine Hat man, is also facing several drug-related charged in relation to the investigation, police said.

ALERT acting Staff Sgt. Curtis Neiman acknowledged the damage drug dealers can cause in a community.

“We recognize the impacts prolific drug traffickers can have on our city and neighbouring communities, especially when they continue to target our most vulnerable population,” Neiman said in a statement.

“This investigation shows ALERT’s diligence in monitoring drug trafficking activity.”

ALERT continues to work with the Medicine Hat Police Service to target repeat offenders, Neiman added.
