A Brooks Bombers player among 13 WCBL players selected in 2024 MLB Draft

A total of 13 played current Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) players where selected in the 2024 Major League Baseball draft.

Eight of these players being selected from the Okotoks Dawgs, two from the Sylvan Lake Gulls, and a single played from each of the Brooks Bombers, Regina Red Sox and Swift Current 57’s.

The highest WCBL selection in this year’s draft was Sylvan Lake Gulls catcher Nathan Flewelling. The 17-year-old is a big part of the team’s offense, helping them currently sit in first place in the WCBL.

Following Flewelling, the following players were drafted:

  • Sam Stuhr (Okotoks Dawgs) – 3rd Round, 94th Overall, Tampa Bay Rays
  • Zane Zielinski (Regina Red Sox) – 9th Round, 268th Overall, San Francisco Giants
  • Jack Lines (Okotoks Dawgs) – 12th Round, 366th Overall, Tampa Bay Rays
  • Ryan Magdic (Swift Current 57’s) – 14th Round, 406th Overall, Oakland Athletics
  • Mason Guerra (Okotoks Dawgs) – 14th Round, 431st Overall, Atlanta Braves
  • Eric Rataczak (Brooks Bombers) – 16th Round, 484th Overall, Miami Marlins
  • Titus Dumitru (Okotoks Dawgs) – 16th Round, 491st Overall, Atlanta Braves
  • Micah McDowell (Okotoks Dawgs) – 17th Round, 514th Overall, Miami Marlins
  • Tyler Hampu (Sylvan Lake Gulls – 18th Round, 528th Overall, Colorado Rockies
  • Owen Pote (Okotoks Dawgs) – 19th Round, 569th Overall, Cincinnati Reds
  • Vicarte Domingo (Okotoks Dawgs) – 19th Round, 579th Overall, San Diego Padres
  • Eric Hartman (Okotoks Dawgs) – 20th Round, 611th Overall, Atlanta Braves

In addition, pitcher Jay Schueler, who is on the roster of the 2024 Okotoks Dawgs inked a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays shortly after the draft concluded. Schueler has not pitched in the 2024 season yet due to an injury.

First overall pick Travis Bazzana also has a connection to the Dawgs, having played at Seaman Stadium in 2023 when practing Oregan State University.

The pair bumps the number of players with a connection to the Okotoks Dawgs drafted up to 10.
