The Medicine Hat Public Library is starting a BYOB Club.

The BYOB stands for “bring your own book”, putting a new spin on the library’s adult summer reading program.

The first theme is “Into The Water” and runs until July 18. The first BYO Book Club meeting takes place on that day at 6:30 p.m.

“Every two weeks starting July 4 we’re giving you a new theme,” adult and community library Miranda Leduc said.

“Every second Thursday we’ll meet for the Bring Your Own Book Club where we’ll talk about the different books we’ve all read.”

You can read any book that has anything to do with water. That includes books based around water, in water and near water – beaches, oceans, rivers and more,” Leduc said.

For every book that participants read in each theme they can submit a ballot for a grand prize draw at the end of summer.

Ballots can be picked up and returned at the library information desk or people can enter online.

The BYOB Club replaces the library’s familiar adult One Book One Summer program, in which all participants read the same book after a public vote.

The teen edition of One Book One Summer will still run again this year.
