Turner Park to close for trail system, shade sail upgrades

Jul 9, 2024 | 5:09 PM

Medicine Hat’s Turner Park is closing on Monday for upgrades the city says will improve its accessibility and functionality.

The construction project will add a trail system to the park, install a shade sail near the playground, upgrade irrigation systems and put in place alternative landscaping options, the city said in a news release.

The changes will enhance green spaces while reducing water consumption, according to the city.

Supplemental watering will occur during the project to maintain the health of the existing trees in the area.

Establishment of the newly-planted trees will take time and the full benefits of the project will not be seen until next year.

There are other playgrounds nearby that remain open at Taylor Place, Taylor Boulevard and Redwood parks.

The project is expected to continue into the fall, the city said.
