The Medicine Hat College Rattlers have been awarded with the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Community Service Award.

The award, presented at the CCAA annual meeting in Ottawa on June 12, recognizes an institution that has successfully developed andadministered a community relations program.

Due to the outstanding involvement of student-athletes within Medicine Hat and the surrounding areas, MHC was nationally recognized as this year’s winner.

Receiving the community service award for the third time in six years was a testament to the college’s commitment to community engagement, Kristina Hyde said in a statement.

“We’re dedicated to fostering a culture of service, and this award highlights the significant impact our student-athletes volunteer efforts have had on Medicine Hat and the surrounding areas,” Hyde said.

“Despite their demanding schedules filled with studying, practices, and games, they still find time to volunteer and make a meaningful difference,” she added.

“We couldn’t be prouder of our Rattlers for embracing the true spirit of community and leaving a positive, lasting impact on everyone they engage with.”

The Rattlers previously won the CCAA Community Service Award in 2019 and 2020, and the 2024 award crowns the significant investment made by the student-athletes to make a difference in the community.

Over the past year, the Rattlers volunteered with 85 organizations and events in Medicine Hat, contributing to a total of 2,700 hours of community service in seven months.

This national award represents the collective effort to support the local community over the past academic year.
