Andrew Wiggins unable to join Canada camp ahead of Olympics, held out by Warriors

Jun 28, 2024 | 5:34 PM

TORONTO — Andrew Wiggins will not have his chance to be with Canada looking ahead to the Paris Olympics.

Rowan Barrett, the general manager of Canada’s men’s basketball team, confirmed that Wiggins was being held out from competing at camp by his NBA team, the Golden State Warriors.

Barrett said he received the call “a day or two” before training camp commenced on Friday.

Wiggins was among the 20 players who got an invite to camp for Canada from Friday through to July 7 to determine the team heading to Paris.

It would have been Wiggins first time playing for Canada since the Olympic qualifying tournament in Victoria in 2021 for the Tokyo Games.

Canada is looking for a gold-medal finish at the Olympics after winning bronze at the FIBA World Cup last summer.
