Next month is National Lost Pet Prevention Month. An online poll saw that over the summer, reported missing pets will spike by 126 per cent as compared to winter months.

APARC general manager Stephen Wolf said that dogs should be supervised as they tend to get bored and escape from yards.

City bylaws ask that cats remain indoors, but wolf says that accidents happen and that pet owners should always be prepared.

Pet owners are given tips for National Lost Pet Prevention Month.

“I would say have pet licenses done and microchip. Make sure your microchip information is up to date, as well as licenses, so it’s easier to reunite with your animal if it goes missing,” Wolf said.

Wolf said that they will update websites and social media as more pets get impounded with the hopes of reuniting them with pet owners.

Wolf added that due to pet surrenders, APARC is currently at capacity for cats and dogs and to visit their website to find information for adoptions.
